Venues « Big White Rally Weekend

Volunteer Training and Rally Open House: Sunday Nov 28, 6-9pm

There will be a rally social at the Coldwell Banker office in downtown Kelowna (1332 Water St.) from 6-9pm this Sunday, November 28. Volunteers who wish to pick up their information packages during this evening should let Nicki (nicki@rallybc.com) know in advance. There will be a presentation and training session at 730pm. This will be geared towards rally newbies, and all new or inexperienced volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend. Rally organizers and experienced volunteers will be present for the entire evening to help you get ready for the weekend and to answer any questions you may have. We’ll have refreshments and some rally videos, as well, so please join us in gearing up for the 2010 Big White Rally Weekend.

SnowX registration and technical inspection will also be available at this time.

2010 Big White Rally Planning Underway

Here we go!! Initial road scouting for the 2010 edition of the Big White Winter Rally has begun. The rally is scheduled for the tentative opening weekend on the hill again this year, so everyone coming up for the first day will see the rally and snowX cars in action. The Big White Winter Rally has been added as the final event in the Pacific Northwest Rally Championship, a US regional series.

Watch the Snow Fall on the Big White SnowX Course

bwemaillogo With a wet forecast for the Okanagan this weekend, winter enthusiasts are hoping for some snow up at Big White. The Happy Valley Day Lot is the location for the Big White SnowX, and one of Big White’s webcams gives a great view of the course, and its progress into perfect winter SnowX conditions. Big White Host Venue Details and Event Summary

From the Big White event summary:

Winter action sports are in full swing in the early season at Big White! Organized by the West Coast Rally Association, the second annual Big White Rally Weekend is scheduled for the opening weekend of December 4-6, 2009. Performance rally teams will be testing the limits of speed and snow on the nearby forest roads, and registered entrants will have the chance to test their daily drivers against the rally cars. This year’s event features a full regional stage competition that will be scored as part of the Western Canadian Rally Championship, and a SnowX for regular production vehicles.

On Friday, rally teams, snowXers and volunteers will be gathering at the resort to register and organize for Saturday’s regional rally. Friday is also reconnaissance, where drivers and codrivers explore the stage roads and make detailed pacenotes for the following day. Friday evening concludes with a casual social event.

On Saturday, the fun begins. Rally teams with fully caged production cars will be competing in the first ever Big White Winter Regional Rally on closed snowy forest roads near the resort. The service park will be at Happy Valley, which will be accessible to spectators interested in seeing rally teams in action. Happy Valley will also be the location for a tight, technical autoX style course that the rally cars will run as a super special stage. While the rally cars are out on the forest stages, the super special will be open to local drivers in regular production cars as part of a SnowX competition.

Spectators will be able to view the SnowX competition from the back of the skating rink at Happy Valley. For more adventurous newcomers or seasoned rally spectators, designated spectator areas will be accessible on the forest stages. The event concludes on Saturday night with an awards party at Happy Valley. On Sunday, local rally driver Mark Jennings-Bates will have the Prescribed Burn Rally Team car in the village for a closer look and to talk about his bid to compete in the 2011 Dakar International Rally.

The fourth annual Big White Rally Weekend will take place December 2-4, 2011 at Big White Ski Resort, in Kelowna, British Columbia. To volunteer for the event, fill out the Volunteer Survey.
